Brand photography with Nick Woodhead Design in Honley, West Yorkshire

I recently met up with Nick Woodhead, Design and Illustration, in Honley, Holmfirth. Well, to be exact, we had a shoot in Meltham, just over the hill. The photoshoot was for Nick's business listing on the Honley website.

Whenever I do these shoots, it's essential for me to make sure I capture the real person behind the business. I found out that Nick loves the outdoors and getting out and going for a hike. We decided that it would be a good idea to meet at West Nab, a big hill in Meltham.

As always, I arrived early and thought I had a few minutes to devise a game plan. Nick called me and then started waving at me, as he was already on top of the hill, so I grabbed my cameras and ran up there to meet him. 

At the summit, it was incredibly windy, one of those days when the wind could blow you off the hill. I was really glad that I didn't bring loads of lighting up the hill, which was my original plan.

It was so windy that we couldn't hear each other speak, so trying to direct Nick was a challenge; fortunately, he didn't need much direction. One of the pictures that I wanted to capture was of Nick being in the great outdoors, which illustrates a place to think.

I was so happy to see that Nick has an old-school way of thinking. When I think of a proper designer, I picture them with a moleskin book and pen doodling, so I was delighted that Nick was one of these people. We found a bit of shelter where we could capture this very picture.

Our cobwebs were well and truly blown away, so we decided on a second part of the shoot. We would like to venture out to some locations where Nick has done some of their branding in recent projects. We headed to Compo's fish and chip shop and then to You hair salon.

The shoot was great fun. It was the first time I had properly chatted to Nick, and we really gelled. What else could make this shoot better? Well, Nick bought me a can of Coke and a Cadbury's Cream Egg. I love it.
