Rhian Evans, Wortley Hall, Sheffield, South Yorkshire
I love the variety of my work so I was very happy to head to the stunning Wortley Hall in Sheffield, South Yorkshire to photograph Rhian Evans who is a professional harpist. As a photographer, I wear a few hats and wedding photography is my main source of income (check out my weddings website here) so sometimes my weddings cross over with my commercial work. Rhian is a wedding harpist and wanted some pictures that showed who she is but none of this white background nonsense. Rhian had arranged a day when she was going to do some filming and recording and wanted me to head over to shoot some behind the scenes pictures of the process and maybe take some proper pictures as well. The majority of the shoot I spent just capturing what was happening and photographing Rhian at work but I made sure that I had fifteen minutes to create some actual proper portraits. I would have loved to have gone outside but very expensive antique harps aren't particularly happy when it comes to the Yorkshire weather so I had to keep my ideas to something indoors. Fortunately, Wortley Hall has a beautiful dining room which makes a perfect backdrop for harpists.
I enjoyed the shoot, listening to loads of eighties hits on a harp is pretty surreal but it's still pretty cool. As I mentioned I do love the variety of people that ask me for photo shoots. It doesn't always have to be a business coach or a solicitor that asks for pictures on white backgrounds (in fact I usually turn them down).
